As the global response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and other impacted communities continues to develop, we wanted to share our position with the Correlate community.
Over the past few weeks, our teams have been closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine — particularly with respect to our developers, who are contract workers based in Ukraine. We’re adding our voices to those around the world who are calling for an end to these devastating attacks through the following:
• We echo the sentiments expressed by many other organizations, companies and individuals around the world; Putin’s unprovoked acts of violence against a sovereign nation and its people are abhorrent and deserve to be condemned.
• We are united with the people of Ukraine, and we support democratic societies in which citizens have the right and freedom to live without fear of threats or violence. To that end, we are extremely grateful to our Ukrainian tech co-creators, whose suggestions are helping to guide us in supporting Ukraine in meaningful, people-led ways.
• As a digital company built on the ideal that everyone deserves to feel empowered to express their stories and perspectives by adding context to content, we are looking at ways we can live out this mission — not just for those in Ukraine but also for protestors and dissidents around the world. We are moved by the numbers of Russians who knowingly risk their safety to speak out against the war, participate in protests and help share accurate information about what the Russian government is actually doing, and we want to support that.
• Although many organizations have rightly decided to cut ties with Russia, for the moment, we haven’t. Here’s why: We believe that shutting off Russians and Belarusians is likely to make the government’s closed digital communities more powerful. Although these governments may be committed to encouraging darkness and deception, we believe in shining a light on the truth and holding out our hands to those willing to seek it. We are not at war with everyday people — only their power-hungry leaders who are attempting to snuff out truth, freedom and life itself.
We will continue to monitor the situation and share updates here. In the meantime, while so much is uncertain, we are asking for your patience and understanding as we prioritize the safety of those who work for and with us, particularly those based in and around Ukraine.
Slava Ukraini!
